What is Yoni Steaming?

Yoni Steaming is a holistic and gentle form of hydrotherapy that supports a woman's reproductive system. It is a sacred ritual that has been around for decades to help detox, relax, and heal women of common reproductive issues, release stored trauma, and reconnect with their womb. Women typically sit over a steaming pot of herbs and hot purified water, which allows the healing properties of the herbs to be absorbed through the yoni.

For this reason, yoni steaming can benefit more than just your reproductive system, but other body systems and functions as well. It is important to understand that not everyone will have the same experience. We've listed many of the commonly reported benefits of yoni steaming below.

What to expect after a yoni steam?

After yoni steaming women have reported many different gradual and onset changes. It is important to listen to your body, drink plenty of water, and rest if you can. We've listed a few things you might expect immediately after your yoni session.

  • Induced menses
  • Release of dark blood and clots
  • Urge to urinate
  • Light cramping
  • Change in discharge or release of waste (can be mucous-like tissue)
  • Headache or aching feet (a sign that you may be dehydrated)

When should I yoni steam?

Women should yoni steam 1-3 times per month. Here are a few recommendations that are based on your menstrual cycle. If you need help figuring out your cycle length there are many online tools available to help you. Please note that these are simply recommendations. You are in control of your journey and should only steam when it feels right
  • Women who suffer from pain and cramping, old dark blood, bloating or exhaustion during menstruation should steam 1 to 2 times within the week before menstruation and once after.
  • Women who are experiencing fertility challenges should steam once per week to make sure that the tissue is moist and that the cervical fluids are clear and copious. They should expect to steam for a minimum of three to six months before possible results (These results may vary as many factors affect fertility) DO NOT STEAM AFTER OVULATION OR INSEMINATION
  • Women who are experiencing or who have passed menopause should steam at least 3x per year for maintenance but may steam more often if it feels right.
  • Women steaming to address a recurring infection should do a mild steam for 3 days providing there are no cuts and open wounds
  • Women who are simply looking to maintain their yoni wellness should steam 1-3 times per month. Steaming at least once before and after menstruation.
  • Special note, if you're receiving a bikini wax or Brazilian wax, we suggest you steam first, then wax. Wax may (not in all cases) irritate the skin and make for an unpleasant steam session.

How long should my steaming session last?

A mild yoni steam session can range anywhere from 10-20 minutes without any sustained heat source (i.e. crockpot, hot plate). Here are some reasons you may need to try a mild steam.

  • 1st time steaming
  • short cycle (21 days or shorter)
  • Endometriosis
  • Prone to yeast infections
  • Excessive heat exhibiting night sweats or night flashes over the past month
  • Currently experiencing or prone to Bacterial Vaginosis
  • Herpes (without an active outbreak)
  • Menopausal

    A standard yoni steam session can range anywhere from 30-60 minutes with a sustained heat source. Here are some reasons you may need to try a standard steam.

  • Cysts
  • Fibroids
  • Cramping
  • PCOS
  • Has experienced 1 or more yoni steam session
  • Those with Normal or Longer cycles (Normal Cycle 21-35 days Long Cycle       35 days or more)
  • Infertility
  • Womb detox
  • When should you avoid yoni steaming?

    • If you are currently spotting or menstruating (steaming can increase the intensity of your flow)

    • Have open wounds, sores, or incisions.

    • If you have an infection, experiencing uterine fatigue, or postpartum hemorrhaging


    • If you are trying to conceive, and you're past ovulation and after insemination

    • Experiencing a hot flash

    • After birth or miscarriage avoid steaming until the bleeding has stopped

    • If you use an IUD for your birth control method. Yoni steaming can cause the IUD to shift or become ineffective

    • If you have vaginal piercings they need to be removed before your yoni steam session

    How to yoni steam at home


  • 8 cups of purified water
  • Pot
  • Pre-measured yoni steaming herbs from NaturalNess Yoni Collection
  • Heat-safe glass, wood, or stainless steel bowl (a crockpot on low would also work)
  • Yoni steam gown or blanket
  • Yoni steam stool or seat (optional)

    Once you have gathered all of your materials, be sure to set your space creating a relaxing atmosphere. Your yoni steaming ritual is an intentional act to not only cleanse and rejuvenate the yoni but a chance to release trauma and reconnect with your femininity. With that being said set your intentions, meditate, journal, or whatever you need to do.

    STEP 1: Boil your water

    STEP 2:Add your tea bag and remove it from the heat source allowing it to steep for at least 5 minutes or until it reaches an inviting temperature

    STEP 3: Pour your mixture into your heat-safe bowl or crockpot

    STEP 4: Place your bowl in your yoni steam seat ( If you do not own a steam seat that's OK! You can place your bowl in the toilet or squat over your bowl)

    STEP 5: Sit over your mixture and cloak yourself with your gown or a blanket for the recommended time.

    STEP 6: Discard the mixture and clean your space. Be sure to stay hydrated and get some rest.
